He obtained his B.Sc.Eng. degree from the University of Peradeniya in 1985, his Masters (M.Eng.Sc.) and PhD degrees from the University of New South Wales, Australia and the University of Queensland Australia, in 1992 and 1997 respectively. Upon completing the PhD, he worked as a Research Fellow at the Cooperative Research Centre for Sensor Signal and Information Processing (CSSIP) in Adelaide Australia. Following this, he joined the University of Peradeniya as a Senior Lecturer and is working there to date.
His interests span three areas: RF and microwave engineering, antennas, and signal processing. The area of applications is mainly focused on low power radar systems such as ground penetrating radars and bio-medical sensing radars. He is the founder of the IEEE MTT-S Sri Lanka chapter and was an active member of the chapter since its inception to date.

Research interests are directed primarily towards ...... research in a variety of interrelated areas:

⮚   Very low frequency (VLF) radio frequency identification (RFID)

⮚   Low power radar (GPR, bio-medical radar, and radar interferometry)

⮚  RF and microwave circuit design and antennas
