University of Peradeniya and IIT Madras Launch Student Exchange Program

The University of Peradeniya (UOP), in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM), has officially launched a student exchange program aimed at strengthening academic ties and fostering international research exposure for undergraduate students. This initiative is spearheaded by the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (DEEE) at UOP and the Department of Electrical Engineering at IITM. The program provides selected students with the opportunity to engage in advanced research and gain hands-on experience in cutting-edge technological domains.

As part of the inaugural intake, the following fourth-year undergraduate students from DEEE, UOP have been selected to undertake a six-month internship at IIT Madras:

Sarusan Sivanesan

  • Working under the guidance of Prof. Lakshmi Narasimhan Theagarajan at the Department of Electrical Engineering and the Wadhwani School of Data Sciences and AI, his research focuses on AI/ML techniques for natural language processing.

Mohamed Sahmi

  • Supervised by Prof. Boby George at the Department of Electrical Engineering and the School of Medical Sciences and Technology, he will work on Biomedical Instrumentation.

Mathusha Jegakumaran

  • Under the mentorship of Prof. Radhakrishna Ganti at the WiSeR Lab – Centre for Advanced Wireless Systems & Sensing, her research will focus on FPGA implementation for 6G development.

The Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at UOP congratulates the selected students on this achievement and anticipates that this collaboration will pave the way for future academic and research partnerships between the two institutions.
