The IEEE International Conference on Industrial and Information Systems (ICIIS2025) was held for the 19th time from January 16 to 17, 2025, at the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, University of Peradeniya. This conference, the first IEEE event organized by a Sri Lankan institution, has been an annual gathering since 2006, with the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering alternating hosting duties with one of the Indian Institutes of Technology every two years. The conference has gained international recognition thanks to the technical co-sponsorship of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), USA, along with the IEEE Sri Lanka Section, IEEE PES Sri Lanka, and the IEEE-SL CRSS, which acted as a financial sponsor. 

As we move beyond Industry 4.0—characterized by automation, data, and connectivity—Industry 5.0 integrates these technologies while placing a renewed emphasis on human values, sustainability, resilience, and collaboration between humans and machines. With this perspective, ICIIS 2025 adopted the theme “NEXT-GEN ENGINEERING for INDUSTRY 5.0: Innovative Intelligent Systems for a Human-Centric Future.” This theme encourages researchers and practitioners to investigate how cutting-edge innovations in areas such as artificial intelligence, robotics, VLSI design, embedded systems, and energy systems can be leveraged to create technologies that are not only intelligent and efficient but also responsive to societal needs and challenges.

The conference received 194 technical paper submissions (113 got accepted) from numerous countries, reflecting its international standing. Additionally, ICIIS 2025 brought together local and international academics, postgraduates, undergraduates, and industry representatives to share knowledge, foster research collaborations, and promote innovations.

The ICIIS2025 was organized jointly by the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (DEEE) and the IEEE Central Region Subsection in Sri Lanka, under the leadership of chairperson Dr. Sudheera Navarathna. The conference featured four pre-conference workshops and two pre-conference tutorials. The Inauguration Ceremony took place on January 16, 2025, starting at 8:55 AM at the EOE Pereira Theater within the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Peradeniya. The Chief Guest for the event was Eng. Kumara Jayakody, the Minister of Energy, and the Guest of Honor was Eng. Fharazy Fahimy, Director of Research at Synopsys Lanka. Prof. Ranjith Pallegama, the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya, also attended the occasion.

The conference successfully concluded after five technical paper presentation sessions, encompassing a total of 20 tracks along with five keynote speeches on January 16 and 17. During the banquet on the opening night, the conference was officially handed over to ABV-IIITM, Gwalior, for ICIIS 2026.
