Congratulations to the project team from the Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering (DEEE) and the Department of Manufacturing and Industrial Engineering (DMIE), in collaboration with the Multidisciplinary AI Research Centre (MARC), for winning the National Award for Best Innovative Product in the Healthtech category at the prestigious SLASSCOM National Ingenuity Awards 2025. This open competition welcomed participants from universities, innovators, companies, and industries across the country. The dedicated undergraduate team excelled and successfully outperformed corporate contenders to achieve this esteemed recognition.

Under the guidance of academic leaders, the project “Wearable Device and AI-Based Analysis for Human Motion Capture” showcases years of development. The winning team consists of Thevindu Samarasekera, Tharinda Navarathne, Buddhini Rathnayaka, Praveen Rathnayaka, Sachintha Adhikari, Oshadha Rathnayake, Mahela Pandukabhaya, Nadeera Meghapathirana, Tharaka D. Fonseka, and Madhumini Kulathunge, alongside academics Prof. Roshan Godaliyadda, Prof. Mervyn Parakrama Ekanayake, Prof. Vijitha R. Herath, Dr. Pramila Gamage, and Dr. Chanaka Senanayake. Future applications include optimizing manufacturing processes, enhancing sports performance, preventing injuries, ensuring worker safety, and improving quality assurance in psychomotor tasks. These initiatives will be advanced through strategic collaborations that showcase the innovative potential of this AI-driven research.
