Ishara from DEEE represented UOP in WUG2023

The 31st World University Games was took place in Chengdu, China from July 28th to August 8th, 2023 welcoming more than 8000 athletes from over 150 countries. The WUG holds tremendous significance in the world of University Sports, being second only to the Olympics. Ishara Abeyratne (E/18) from DEEE was the only athlete chosen from UOP for this global event. Representing Sri Lanka in swimming at such a prestigious event is a remarkable accomplishment, and it's evident that Ishara is a talented and dedicated athlete.
Ishara's outstanding performances in the year 2022 has secured a place in the team to represent Sri Lankan Universities in WUG. He is also serving as the captain of the University (Peradeniya) Swimming Team, and has won gold medals at the Inter University Swimming Championships 2022, setting two new meet records in the process. Further, he is a member of the national pool for swimming and open water for the year 2023.
Ishara's journey and success will undoubtedly serve as an inspiration to future generations of university athletes at the University of Peradeniya and beyond. We wish Ishara Abeyratne the best of luck in his future endeavors, both in swimming and in any other pursuits he chooses to pursue. His achievements are a source of pride for the university and country, and he has undoubtedly left a lasting impact on the world of university sports.
