DEEE is happy to announce that one of Our Senior Professors, Prof. M.A.R.M. Fernando has appointed as the new Chairman of the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) following the approval by the Constitutional Council. Department congratulate him and wish him a successful tenure. Prof. Fernando assumed duties on 23rd of June, 2023.

PUCSL is the Economic, Technical and Safety regulator of the Electricity industry in Sri Lanka and the designated regulator for petroleum and water services industries. PUCSL also has been assigned as the shadow regulator for the lubricant market in Sri Lanka. PUCSL was established by The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka Act No. 35 of 2002.

This is the second time, a DEEE member appointed as the PUCSL Chairman. In 2019, Prof. K.M. Liyanage from the department was appointed to the very same position.
