Biography
Dr. Tharindu Weerakoon received BSc(Hons.) degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the University of Peradeniya in 2007. He earned M.Sc. and Ph.D. both in Robotics and Control from the Kyushu Institute of Technology (KIT), Japan in 2012 and 2016, respectively. He was attached to the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Faculty of Engineering of University of Peradeniya first as an Instructor and then as a Lecturer form April, 2007 to March 2010. From 2012 to 2016 he worked as a research assistant, and between April 2016 and May 2017 he was a researcher at the Kyushu Institute of Technology, Japan. In addition, he has served for several state and private academic institutions as a consultant during 2007 and 2010. He was with the underwater research group of the Center for Socio-Robotic Synthesis at KIT collaborated with the University of Tokyo, Japan, until May 2017. He has published several journal and conference papers and some of them have received the best paper award. He joined the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine, Sri Lanka as a senior lecturer in June 2017 served until December, 2017 and then with the Sri Lanka Technological Campus, Sri Lanka until 15th of August, 2019. Currently he is a senior lecturer at the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya.
