Alumni Association University of Peradeniya
"Proud have been at the University of Peradeniya" - AAUP
Great Trees have Strong Roots
Several alumni who have achieved great success in their careers have shared their Testimonials about the Department. These testimonials will be very beneficial for prospective students who are considering applying to our specialization program. We thank them for sharing their experiences, and we are proud of their accomplishments since graduating from the University of Peradeniya. Your success is a testament to the quality of education that you received here, and we are grateful that you have chosen to share your story with others.
I believe that the strong theoretical foundation I received from DEEE has played a key role in my research career. My research experience at DEEE provided me with a wide variety of skills, knowledge and inspiration, which had a significant impact on my successful doctoral research at the University of Maryland (which received a Distinguished Dissertation Fellowship Award and a Best Paper Award at IEEE ICC 2023).
- Sajani Vithana
Final year ECE Doctoral Student at the University of Maryland
The experience I gained from my research at DEEE has greatly impacted my academic and professional journey. The department provided exceptional education, research exposure, and inspiration, which allowed me to acquire skills during my NILM project. The solid research foundation I received from DEEE also played a crucial role in earning my Ph.D. and being recognized with a Distinguished Doctoral Dissertation Award in 2022 from the University at Albany.
- Dr. Yasitha Liyanage
Data and Applied Scientist at Microsoft
Thanks to the comprehensive engineering education I received at DEEE, the transition to my graduate studies in the Department of Systems Engineering at Boston University was seamless. The subsequent success of my doctoral research (which received the Outstanding Dissertation Award in Systems Engineering) and my recent postdoctoral research (which received the Best Paper Award at the 30th Mediterranean Conference on Control and Automation) is a testament to the solid foundation laid during my time at DEEE.
- Dr. Shirantha Welikala
Postdoctoral Research Fellow, University of Notre Dame, USA (2023)
My initial education at Peradeniya was instrumental in providing me with a solid foundation for graduate studies. Courses at Peradeniya - particularly signals and systems, random signal analysis, digital signal processing, communication theory provided me with the essential theoretical background that is required to learn material in machine learning and computer vision. The course system at Peradeniya was structured such that students would obtain a general understanding about various disciplines in Electrical and Electronic Engineering before committing to a particular sub-field. I feel this choice helped me explore and identify a field that I was most passionate about.
- Dr. Pramuditha Perera
Applied Scientist at Amazon AI Labs
I strongly believe that the research experience that I got while working with you in 2014-2016 helped me a lot to make a substantial research contribution during my Ph.D. and after. So definitely, this research experience was one of the key factors to receiving this medal, the Governor General’s Gold Medal.
- Dr. Chinthaka Dinesh
Research Scientist at SFU (2022)
The DEEE academic program, which is characterized by a strong theoretical foundation and a comprehensive range of technical topics, as well as its esteemed and inspiring staff, have played a vital role in shaping the trajectory of my postgraduate and research career.
- Dr. Akram Shafie
Research Associate at UNSW
