Best Paper Awards at MERCon 24

The Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering proudly announces that two research teams have won Best Paper awards in different tracks at the recent MERCon.
In the Technology Management Track, the paper titled "Quality Assessment of Welding Using Regression Analysis of Biomechanical Data" was awarded Best Paper. The study, conducted by Mr. Mahela Pandukabhaya, Mr. Tharaka D. Fonseka, Ms. Madhumini Kulathunge, Prof. Roshan Godaliyadda, Prof. Parakrama Ekanayake, Dr. Chanaka Senanayake, Dr. Pramila Gamage, and Prof. Vijitha Herath, explores innovative methods for improving the quality assessment of welding through biomechanical data analysis. This paper showcases the strong interdisciplinary collaboration between the DEEE and the Department of Manufacturing and Industrial Engineering (DMIE), with contributions from Dr. Pramila Gamage and Dr. Chanaka Senanayake. It also underscores the research versatility within the DEEE.
In the Mining and Earth Resources Engineering Track, the Best Paper award was presented for "Comparative Analysis of Endmember Extraction Methods for Lithological Mapping Using Hyperspectral Imaging." This paper, authored by Mr. Chiranjith Dammage, Mr. Keshawa Ratnayake, Mr. Ravindu Rodrigo, Prof. Roshan Godaliyadda, Prof. Parakrama Ekanayake, and Prof. Vijitha Herath, focuses on advancing lithological mapping techniques through hyperspectral imaging.
The Moratuwa Engineering Research Conference 2024 (MERCon 2024) celebrates its 10th edition as an international event organized by the Engineering Research Unit at the University of Moratuwa. MERCon invites research papers that showcase significant and pioneering contributions across all engineering disciplines.
