The Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering has made significant contributions to the national economic development through innovations, technology transfers and consultancies to industry, contributing to national policy implementations, and research and development. Some of the key areas where DEEE have made a difference include: renewable energy integration, telecommunication industry, design and automation in manufacturing and infrastructure development, AI applications in healthcare, etc.

Recently, panel of Experts and Administrators including the Vice Chancellor from the University of Peradeniya were interviewed by Sirasa TV on their Program "Jathika Mehewara".  There, Prof. Lilantha Samaranayake, Head of the Department explained recent innovations related to renewable energy applications at DEEE.
