EE251: Principles of Electrical Measurements

EE251

To provide an understanding of the fundamental concepts of electrical measurements and basic measuring instruments and the state of the art sensor technologies so that students will be able properly use different measuring instrument and undertake a mini-project based on what they have learnt.

NO. OF CREDITS: 3

PREREQUISITES: GP112-ENGINEERING MEASUREMENTS

MAIN TOPICS AND INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOMES

TOPICS

Fundamentals of Electrical Measurements
Review of ac. signal parameters
Measurement of ac signals
Comparison methods
Shielding and Earthing,
Noise elimination techniques
Resonance methods
Sensors and transducers

Student will be able to,

ILO1: Compute peak, dc and rms values, period, frequency and phase of alternating signals.
ILO2: Illustrate how to use an oscilloscope for measurement of various signals.
ILO3: Compute expressions for impedance ratio between arms of ac bridges.
ILO4: Create a sensor based system where the students will be exposed to practical consideration in sensor systems.
