Biography
Mervyn Parakrama B. Ekanayake received the degree of Bachelor in the Science of Engineering with Honours (BSc Eng (Hons)) specializing in Electrical and Electronic Engineering with First Class Honours from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka in 2006. He obtained the degree of Doctor of Philosophy from the Texas Tech University, Lubbock TX, USA, specializing in Applied Mathematics in 2011. Currently, he is a Professor in the Department Electrical and Electronic Engineering, University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. He became a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) in 2019. He is also a member of the IEEE Control Systems Society and IEEE Signal Processing Society. His research interests are on areas of system modeling, signal and image processing, artificial intelligence and machine learning, and control systems. Over the years, he has produced many journal and conference papers in collaborating with research on biometrics, biomedical signal processing and imaging, remote sensing, food and water quality assessment, computer vision, smart grid, underwater and mobile robotics, epidemiology, social dynamics, education, etc. He has also been part of several national and international research grants in the capacity of Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator. His teaching interests are signal processing, control systems, and computational techniques. He has produced several books and compendia in those areas.
