We are thrilled to announce that the President's Awards for Scientific Research (PASR) - 2023 have been awarded to six exceptional individuals in the Department. The ceremony, which recognized their contributions to science during the years 2019 and 2020, was held on November 21, 2023, at the Sirimavo Bandaranaike Memorial Exposition Centre of the BMICH in Colombo 07.

• - Prof. Janaka Ekanayake (4 awards)
• - Prof. Roshan Godaliyadda (4 awards)
• - Prof. Parakrama Ekanayake (4 awards)
• - Prof. Vijitha Herath (1 award)
• - Prof. Maheshi Dissanayake (1 award)
• - Dr. Himal Suraweera (1 award)

Furthermore, 8 former students at the DEEE also received awards: Shirantha Welikala (2), Chinthaka Dinesh (1), Neelanga Thelasingha (1), M.S.M. Akram (1), Chaminda Bandara (1), Bhathiya Rathnayake (1), Mevan Ekanayake (1),  Kasun Weerakoon (1). All were at DEEE at the time and went on to pursue their postgraduate studies afterward in the USA, Canada, and Australia. One of them thereafter won the Governor of Canada Gold Medal, one completed his Ph.D. with the Best Thesis Award at Boston University,  one recently completed his Ph.D. at ANU, and others are currently pursuing their postgraduate studies at Johns Hopkins University,  University of California San Diego, University of College Park, Monash University, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute building on the strong research foundation they received.

The event is annually organized by the National Research Council (NRC) of Sri Lanka. The NRC has a primary objective of fostering a vibrant scientific and technological community in Sri Lanka. In pursuit of this goal, since 1999, they have implemented the NRC President's Awards for Scientific Research (PASR) program. This program is highly regarded within the scientific community of Sri Lanka, and it aims to recognize exceptional Sri Lankan research efforts by bestowing awards from the President of Sri Lanka.
