A Chinese delegation including experts from the Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences (RCEES), Aerospace Information Research Institute (AIRI), and Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) visited the UOP and the Joint Research & Demonstration Centre for Water Technology (JRDC) for initiating possible future collaborations.

The delegates from the Aerospace Information Research Institute (AIRI) visited the Faculty of Engineering (FOE) and had a very fruitful discussion especially on possible collaborations between the FOE and AIRI for establishing early warning systems for natural disasters like flood control, water quality predictions in Lakes, etc. using GIS and Satellite imagery data. DEEE members including the Head, Prof. Lilantha Samaranayake, Prof. Aruna Gunawardena, Prof. Vijitha Herath and Dr. Nalin Harischandra highlighted possible research ideas/topics and collaborations in Remote sensing, Sensor networks, AI/ML and big data applications. The event was coordinated by the Director of JRDC, Dr. S.K. Weragoda, and Dr. Panduka Neluwala from the Civil Engineering Department.
